Clayton County, Georgia Police Helicopter Unit Locate Stolen Toyota Camry Assisted by the LoJack® System
- August 20, 2013
In this case, ground and air units from the Clayton County, GA Police work together to track a 2012 Toyota Camry stolen from East Point in just over two and a half hours with help from the LoJack® system.
On July 25th, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the East Point Police to report that their vehicle had been stolen from their home. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Camry, which was installed at Atlanta Toyota in Gwinnett, GA.
A short while later, the Clayton County Police Air Support Unit began receiving homing signals from the Toyota on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. The pilot tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex where it was parked next to a building. The pilot called for ground unit assistance and the ground officer found the vehicle occupied. The suspect in the car was arrested and the Camry was soon returned to its grateful owner.
