An Aurora, Colorado man was shocked to discover his 2023 Dodge Durango Hellcat stolen right from his driveway — even though his keys were still safely inside his home. The theft was immediately reported to law enforcement, and the vehicle’s VIN was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
Fortunately, the high-performance SUV was equipped with a LoJack GPS system, a move that proved critical in its swift recovery. The owner contacted LoJack’s 24-hour Stolen Vehicle Recovery Hotline, where specialists quickly activated tracking and shared the vehicle’s information through LoJack LE — a revolutionary new platform built exclusively for law enforcement.
LoJack LE gives agencies real-time GPS tracking access to stolen vehicles equipped with LoJack technology. The platform is one-of-a-kind and provided at no cost to law enforcement, giving investigators an unprecedented tool to combat vehicle theft and recover property faster than ever before.
Detectives with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA) Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force (CMATT) quickly picked up the stolen Hellcat’s signal through LoJack LE. Using the app, they tracked the vehicle as it was driven along the outskirts of Denver until it stopped at a residential property.
When detectives moved in, they found the stolen Durango partially pulled into an open garage. A juvenile suspect at the scene was detained, and a search warrant was obtained. Inside the garage, investigators recovered a second stolen vehicle and multiple stolen license plates. The property is believed to be operating as a potential chop shop.
Thanks to the collaboration between CMATT detectives and LoJack technology, two stolen vehicles were recovered, and a suspect was taken into custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
