BMW X5 Owners Shocked to Realize Their Beloved SUV Was Stolen Right From Their Own Driveway
- July 12, 2012
The owners of a 2002 BMW X5 were enjoying a beautiful summer day on July 5th, 2012 when they realized their beloved BMW SUV had vanished from their driveway. In a total state of shock, they contacted the Everett, MA Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.
The Everett Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the BMW X5.
Soon, state troopers and Everett Police officers picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen BMW on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the troopers and officers observed the reported stolen BMW in heavy traffic on Rt 16 in the Medford/Everett area and began to track it.
Due to the amount of traffic the operator of the BMW pulled into a shopping mall parking lot and took off running, leaving the BMW behind. State troopers engaged in a foot chase and apprehended the suspect a few blocks away after a determined effort to escape. The suspect was removed from the scene for processing on several felony charges at the state Police barracks in Medford.
The vehicle was towed from the scene, without any damage sustained, for safekeeping and notification of the victim by the Everett Police Department.
The elated victims installed their LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System in their 2002 BMW X5 all the way back on 11/01/2002 at Herb Chambers Boston BMW.
Another very happy ending thanks to LoJack and the police.
