Sacramento Police Recover Stolen Nissan Pickup, Arrest Parolee After Car & Foot Chase

On March 30, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Nissan pickup truck contacted the Woodland Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.
Woodland Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Nissan’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the pickup truck. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the hidden transponder, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than five minutes later, officers with the Sacramento Police Department began to pick up the Nissan’s silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. The officers followed the directional and signal strength cues on the tracking computer, and quickly located the pickup being driven by a male suspect. The officers attempted to stop the suspect, who quickly sped away. After traveling a short distance, the suspect pulled to the curb, jumped from the vehicle, and fled on foot. The officers gave chase and caught him. The suspect was a parolee, who had prior arrests for auto theft.
The Nissan pickup was towed and stored for safekeeping until it could be returned to the grateful owner. The entire process – from the report of theft to recovery – took less than 15 minutes.
