A stolen Chevrolet Corvette reported missing from a Washington, D.C. driveway has been recovered in Martinsburg, West Virginia, thanks to LoJack technology and a coordinated multi-state effort by law enforcement.

The vehicle was reported stolen to the Metropolitan Police Department’s 4th District. The owner told officers the Corvette had been parked under a car cover in his driveway, which thieves removed before taking the vehicle. Police quickly entered the details into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.

Fortunately, the Corvette was equipped with a LoJack GPS tracking device. After filing the police report, the owner alerted LoJack’s customer service center, which activated the nationwide law enforcement tracking system.

A LoJack Law Enforcement Liaison monitoring the case soon detected the stolen Corvette’s signal in Martinsburg, West Virginia. The Liaison shared the precise GPS coordinates with a trooper from the West Virginia State Police. Using LoJack’s GPS tracking app, the trooper located the Corvette inside a residential garage at a condominium complex.

Because the vehicle was hidden on private property, officers conducted surveillance until the Corvette was brought into view. Once confirmed, authorities seized the vehicle and took the individual in possession into custody.

No further details about the suspect or charges have been released. Officials say the case highlights how real-time GPS technology and inter-agency cooperation are helping law enforcement recover stolen property and apprehend suspects.
