Commerce, GA — What began as a routine sale of a 2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack quickly evolved into a sophisticated vehicle fraud investigation that demonstrated the effectiveness of LoJack® GPS tracking technology and rapid law enforcement coordination.

Months after the original transaction, dealership personnel discovered the Dodge Charger had been fraudulently obtained. The case was immediately reported to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, and the vehicle was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as a stolen vehicle.

Fortunately, the Charger was equipped with a dealership-installed LoJack GPS tracking system. Acting quickly, the dealership’s finance manager contacted both the LoJack Customer Success and Law Enforcement teams. Within minutes, the stolen Dodge Charger was activated in the LoJack Law Enforcement (LE) App, providing deputies with real-time vehicle tracking data.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office received the live vehicle location and rapidly coordinated a response. Deputies tracked the Charger to an apartment complex, where the vehicle was located parked and unoccupied. Officers moved in to secure the vehicle and coordinate recovery efforts.

As deputies prepared to tow the stolen Charger, an unexpected development unfolded. A resident approached officers and claimed ownership of the vehicle, explaining that he had recently purchased the Charger through an online listing for a price significantly below market value. Investigators soon determined the buyer had unknowingly become part of the broader fraud scheme tied to the stolen vehicle.

“This recovery highlights how organized vehicle fraud cases are becoming increasingly sophisticated and why rapid reporting and real-time GPS tracking are critical,” said a spokesperson familiar with the case. “Because the vehicle was equipped with LoJack and officers had immediate access to live location data, law enforcement was able to recover the Charger quickly and safely.”

The case also serves as a reminder to consumers to exercise caution when purchasing vehicles through private-party sales or online marketplaces, especially when pricing appears unusually low. What initially looked like a great deal ultimately became part of a larger fraudulent transaction involving a stolen vehicle.
For the dealership, however, the outcome was far more positive. Thanks to LoJack stolen vehicle recovery technology and the swift response from Georgia law enforcement agencies, the 2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack was successfully recovered without incident.
