LoJack System Helps Police on Both Coasts Recover Stolen Vehicles Taken During Home Burglaries

LoJack Systems Stops Multiple Professional Thieves in Their Tracks; Recovers Stolen Vehicles Unharmed

Westwood, MA - March 21, 2011 - LoJack Corporation (NASDAQ: LOJN), the company that invented the stolen vehicle recovery market, today announced that in the past week alone its Stolen Vehicle Recovery System has helped police on both coasts recover several stolen vehicles – including two Porsche Carreras – that were stolen during home burglaries.  The three home burglaries involving vehicle theft took place in Oxnard, CA; Baltimore, MD; and Philadelphia, PA.
“In these recovery stories, it’s apparent that professionals thieves were behind the criminal acts and planned not only to burglarize homes, but also drive away with owners’ vehicles.  In two of the three cases, thieves stole multiple vehicles from a single home,” said Patrick Clancy, Vice President of Law Enforcement, LoJack Corporation.  “These sophisticated thieves know just how to break into homes and find keys to what is often, the second most valuable item a homeowner possesses.  No doubt, they targeted the home with two Porsches.  At a time when the national rate of recovered stolen
vehicles is currently at a 25 year low, these stories underscore the importance of protecting your vehicle with a recovery system.”
Thieves Steal Two Porsche Carreras from Home in Ventura County
In the first recovery, thieves broke into a home in the city of Oxnard, California and drove off with two LoJack-equipped Porsche Carreras – a 2008 and a 2009.  Only 26 minutes after the LoJack System was activated by police, the first Porsche was found in a hotel parking lot in Simi Valley.  The second Porsche was found only a short time later in Simi Valley.  The Porsches were returned unharmed to their owners and one suspect to date has been taken into custody.
Two Vehicles Stolen from Home in Baltimore and Recovered
A similar incident took place across the country in Baltimore.  In this case, professional thieves burglarized a home and stole both the owners’ 2011 Subaru Legacy and 2008 Honda CRV.  Within minutes of activation, officers received the silent LoJack signal and found both vehicles parked and unoccupied.  The vehicles were impounded and later returned to their owner.
Thieves in Philadelphia Break into Multiple Homes, Steal Multiple Cars
In Philadelphia, thieves broke into a residence, stole a laptop, an iPod and drove off with a 2004 Toyota Avalon.  Within seconds after the LoJack System was activated, police began picking up the signal from the stolen vehicle.  The Avalon was found, unoccupied; at the same time, other police officers were investigating two suspects at a different location.  The suspects were found to have in their possession an iPod and a set of Toyota car keys.  Officers took the keys back to the stolen vehicle and found them to be a match.  While this burglary was taking place, two additional home invasions involving car thefts were also happening in the area.  As the assigned detective was conducting his investigation, the defendant’s cell phone received a text message, “How Y’all Get Three Cars.”  All three stolen vehicles were located and the defendants were charged with several violations.
