What is the LoCate + LoJack Solution?
The LoCate + LoJack System is a total solution for construction equipment owners that delivers the most comprehensive and effective answer to asset management and theft protection.  The System ultimately provides fleet managers and equipment managers with more control over their businesses and enhanced ROI on their equipment.  The LoCate + LoJack System is comprised of both LoCate, LoJack’s new easy-to-use, straightforward asset management system and the company’s flagship, proven Stolen Vehicle Recovery System.

What is the difference between the LoCate Asset Management System and LoJack’s Stolen Vehicle Recovery System?
The LoCate system is LoJack’s new GPS-based asset management system, which provides valuable data on equipment location, engine hours and reporting for managing equipment maintenance and utilization.  The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is LoJack’s time-tested Radio Frequency-based System for theft recovery.

When using the two systems together, you get the most comprehensive and effective solution to two of the industry’s costliest issues: asset management and theft protection.

Is the LoCate + LoJack one unit or two discrete units?  Where is it(are they) located on the equipment?
The total solution is comprised of two separate ruggedized units.  The GPS-based LoCate unit is typically installed in the equipment’s cab. The power is connected through the ignition in order to allow tracking of “ignition on” time.  The antenna is generally installed on top of the equipment in order to secure direct line of sight with orbiting GPS satellites.

The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is covertly hidden in one of a number of locations on the piece of equipment.  Since the recovery system is Radio Frequency-based, it has no visible antenna and is therefore difficult to disengage.

On what types of equipment can LoCate be installed?
LoCate is designed for heavy equipment and can be installed on equipment that:
• Operates on at least a 12 volt battery
• Has a combustion engine
• Has enough surface area to install a GPS receiver and antenna

How big are the LoCate and LoJack units?
The LoCate asset management unit is 168 mm/6.6 inches (H) x 175mm/6.9 inches (W) x 171mm/6.7 inches (L).

The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery unit is covert and as such, LoJack does not reveal its dimensions.

How do I access and view my fleet when LoCate is installed?
Once the LoCate device is installed on your equipment, you will receive a user name and password that is required to log in to the secure LoCate asset management website to view your fleet. You will need a computer with Internet access.

Does the asset management system work everywhere?
There are inherent limitations to wireless communications and the Global Positioning System (GPS). If your equipment is out of the AT&T cellular coverage area, or loses line of site with orbiting GPS satellites, it will not be visible on your computer screen until it re-enters a coverage zone and/or regains line of site to the GPS satellites. However, because the asset management system utilizes redundant (cellular assist and GPS) technologies, it minimizes the areas in which coverage is halted.

Does the Stolen Vehicle Recovery System work everywhere?
The recovery system operates in all LoJack coverage areas, which includes major metropolitan areas where theft rates are high in 26 states and the District of Columbia.

What happens if my equipment is outside of the cellular network and I need to view my fleet?
While it is not possible to communicate with a piece of equipment that is outside a coverage area, all data will continue to be collected (engine hours, etc.) and will be available for viewing once the equipment returns to a coverage zone. No data will be lost.

How am I notified of boundary crossings and power management alerts?
Notifications are communicated via e-mail and within the reports generated by the LoCate web site.

How many people can be set up to receive alerts?
Customers can determine who—and how many people—they want to be able to receive alerts. There is no restriction on the number of people who can be alerted by the system.

Is it possible to get other feature sets such as engine sensor, route mapping, or curfew periods?
LoJack worked diligently during the development process to accomplish two goals: identify the best feature set to help users have better control of their business and to avoid additional fee charges or web application complexities for our customers.  As a result, the company focused on three core features that were determined key to helping manage your fleet most efficiently: geofencing, location on demand, and engine hours.

Can LoCate integrate with back office systems?
A LoCate Product Specialist can provide the interface specifications and access to the secure server where the data is stored, although your own internal IT department will be required to support the bridge.
