LoJack Early Warning System Enables Quick Recovery of Stolen Ducati Motorcycle in Pierce County, WA

On September 3, 2012, the owner of a 2008 Ducati SBK motorcycle contacted the Kent Police Department to report the theft of the bike. The owner had received an Early Warning Alert from LoJack while away from her residence. Early Warning is a LoJack feature that calls the owner of a bike when it moves without the presence of a LoJack Key Pass. According to the owner, two weeks earlier, her residence was burglarized and her purse – containing a garage door opener – was stolen.
Kent Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Ducati.
Minutes later, deputies from the Pierce County Sheriff Office received the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen motorcycle on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol cars. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the deputies quickly tracked the motorcycle to an apartment complex in the 2400 block of 96th Street South, The motorcycle, valued at $8,000, was abandoned and did not appear to be damaged.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Ducati motorcycle in February of 2008 when it was purchased new at Ducati of Seattle.
