When your car is reported stolen, a standard entry into the state crime database will find a match between your vehicle's VIN and its unique LoJack Code. The LoJack System is automatically triggered, and the car security system's radio transceiver begins to emit silent radio signals. Police can then track and locate the vehicle and recover it.

- An audible or visible car alarm system.
- A vehicle immobilizer system of kill switches and ignition disablers.
- A tracking system that emits a signal to police when a vehicle is reported stolen.
LoJack: Hidden where thieves can't find, found where thieves can't hide

Other car security systems and tracking devices rely on a short, visible antenna that a thief can easily break off. The LoJack Equipment is hidden where thieves can't even see it – not even the car owner knows its location.
The LoJack signal can be traced to any location where car thieves attempt to hide out with your vehicle. The LoJack Car Security System works through concrete walls, ceilings and other barriers (such as underground parking garages) to locate LoJack-equipped vehicles. Other services rely on a satellite system, requiring an unobstructed line of sight between the car security system's antenna and orbiting GPS satellites.
