Traditionally, car alarms have been our primary resource in protecting our cars and trucks from thieves. From silent car alarms to talking car alarms, the car alarm industry has invented everything under the sun to put our minds at ease about the safety of our motor vehicles. Unfortunately, car alarms are often not enough to prevent thieves from seizing a car or truck.
Professional car thieves know the inner workings, and, consequently, the vulnerabilities of most car alarms and automotive security systems. With this knowledge, it is oftentimes possible to bypass even the most sophisticated car alarms and steal the desired automobile. In these cases, the car alarm is rendered useless, leaving the car owner empty-handed.
The LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System has proven to be more effective in auto theft protection than car alarms. While car alarms may deter many thieves from an attempted heist, it is not a foolproof solution. If and when our car alarms are bypassed by an intruder, there ceases to be any way to prevent theft or get back the stolen vehicle.
A LoJack-equipped car provides better than a 90 percent recovery rate second line of defense in protecting your vehicle. In instances where car alarms are breached and vehicles seized, reporting a theft triggers LoJack's System in the car, which emits a silent signal. Law enforcement officials, who are equipped with the LoJack Vehicle Tracking Device, listen for the LoJack signal. The police use the LoJack device to track the vehicle and recover it.
Car alarms are simply not enough to ensure the safety of your vehicle. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) outlines four layers of protection that make up a proper security plan that includes both car alarms and the LoJack Tracking System.
Layer 1: Locking doors, parking in well-lit areas, closing windows, etc.
Layer 2: A car alarm system. This includes audible car alarms, steering wheel locks and theft-deterrent decals.
Layer 3: A vehicle immobilizer system. This alarm addition requires smart keys and uses kill switches to prevent car theft.
Layer 4: The final layer of car security is a vehicle tracking device. According to the NICB, "The final layer is a tracking system that emits a signal to the police or monitoring service when the vehicle is stolen. Tracking devices are very effective in helping authorities recover stolen vehicles."
