The LoJack® System Helps Fort Bend, Texas Sheriff’s Office Recover Stolen Sullivan Air Compressor

  • April 10, 2014

The staff at a construction site in Irving, TX may have thought someone was playing an April Fool’s Day joke when they discovered a rented Sullivan air compressor was missing, but it was actually stolen. The owners of the rented machine were no fools, either- they protected their asset with the LoJack® system, so police were able to recover it quickly and safely.

On April 1st, 2014, the rental company that owned the Sullivan reported its theft to the Irving Police Department. Officers verified the theft and entered the machine’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the air compressor.

A short while later, deputies from the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen machine on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The deputies began following a moving pickup truck with an air compressor attached. The machine had all labels and identifying markings removed, which would have averted a visual search but not LoJack. The pickup was stopped and the Sullivan retrieved.  The air compressor was soon returned to the job site.
