LOJACK REPORTS DELAY IN ISSUING FINAL FISCAL 2001 RESULTS
Dedham, MA, May 11--LoJack Corporation, (NASDAQ NMS: "LOJN") reported today that it will delay the announcement of its results for its fiscal year ended February 28, 2001. This action is a result of a routine review of the Company's Form 10-K for the year ended February 28, 2000. LoJack is in discussions with the staff of the Division of Corporation Finance of the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") regarding the Company's accounting policies for revenue recognition in light of the recently issued guidance in Staff Accounting Bulletin No. 101 ("SAB 101"), "Revenue Recognition in Financial Statements". In certain circumstances SAB 101 requires deferred recognition of all or a portion of sales revenue. As the Company announced on April 4, 2001, in accordance with guidance provided in SAB 101, it will recognize revenue relating to up-front license fees paid by international licensees over the initial terms of the related license agreements (generally 10 years).
The discussions currently revolve around interpretation of revenue recognition for domestic product sales in light of the guidance provided in SAB 101. Any change in revenue recognition policies would affect reported revenues for the year ended February 28, 2001 and the quarters within that year. However, such changes will not affect the company's cash flow or its fundamentally sound financial position.
