Michael Burdiek, President and CEO
Michael Burdiek is president and chief executive officer of CalAmp. In 2006 he joined the company as executive vice president, and he was appointed president of CalAmp's Wireless DataCom segment in 2007. His roles and responsibilities were expanded upon in 2008 when he became chief operating officer, and president and chief operating officer in 2010. In 2011 Burdiek was named president and CEO and appointed to the board of directors.
Prior to joining CalAmp, Burdiek was the president and CEO of Telenetics Corporation, a manufacturer of data communications products. From 2004 to 2005, he worked as an investment partner and advisor in the private equity sector. From 1987 to 2003, Burdiek held a variety of technical and general management positions with Comarco Inc., most recently as senior vice president and general manager of Comarco's Wireless Test Systems unit.
Burdiek began his career as a design engineer with Hughes Aircraft Company. He holds a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Fullerton, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Kansas State University.
Justin Schmid, Sr. VP & GM, Telematics Solutions
Justin Schmid joined CalAmp in 2012 as the senior vice president, marketing and business development. Schmid oversees corporate marketing, business development, as well as international and strategic sales.
With more than 25 years of experience in high tech industries, including 17 years in commercial wireless M2M and data communications markets, Schmid has built and led teams focused on sales, marketing, business development, product management, corporate development, strategy, product development, program management and systems engineering.
Prior to joining CalAmp, Schmid served as vice president of sales and marketing at Xirgo Technologies where he developed and implemented a successful channel and partner strategy for the high-growth start-up.
Earlier in his career, Schmid led marketing, product management and business development for a start-up, AirPrime, which was acquired by Sierra Wireless in 2003. Schmid became head of marketing and business development for Sierra’s embedded module product line and business until he joined AirLink Communications as senior vice president in 2004. At AirLink, he led marketing, product management and strategy, as well as business and corporate development disciplines. During his tenure, AirLink grew from $5 million to more than $30 million in revenue and was acquired by Sierra Wireless in 2007. At that time, Schmid became the vice president of the mobile and M2M business unit at Sierra Wireless.
Schmid holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Richard Vitelle, Exec. V.P., CFO, Treasurer, Secretary
Rick Vitelle joined CalAmp in 2001 and currently serves as executive vice president, chief financial officer and corporate secretary. In this capacity, Vitelle manages the Company’s finance and accounting functions, human resources, corporate information technology, and legal affairs. He is also responsible for corporate governance, SOX and other legal compliance programs, and corporate secretarial functions.
During his years with CalAmp, Vitelle has managed the SEC registration process for a successful $48 million public stock offering; led the financial due diligence and systems integration process for nine consummated acquisitions comprising 16 separate businesses; negotiated several credit facilities involving a total of five commercial banks; significantly enhanced the company’s financial consolidation, forecasting and reporting processes through a total redesign; reduced by 33 percent the time required to close the books and file the company’s quarterly results with the SEC; and closely managed working capital and banking relations during the global recession to help build the foundation for the company’s current financial stability and success.
Prior to joining CalAmp, Vitelle served as vice president of finance and administration and CFO of SMTEK International Inc. (formerly known as DDL Electronics Inc.). In this role, Vitelle managed the SEC registration process for public securities offerings, was involved with a number of M&A transactions, worked closely with legal counsel and investment bankers on complex debt restructuring transactions, engineered a stock listing transfer from the NYSE to NASDAQ, designed and implemented an internal reporting framework for a diversified international technology company with 10 operating subsidiaries, and greatly simplified its financial consolidation and reporting process.
Earlier in his career, Vitelle served as a senior manager with Price Waterhouse where he managed financial statement audit engagements for publicly traded companies, privately held businesses and large, complex governmental entities.
Vitelle graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has been licensed as a certified public accountant in the state of California since 1979.
Garo Sarkissian, Sr. VP, Corporate Development
Garo Sarkissian joined CalAmp in 2005 and currently serves as senior vice president of corporate development. Sarkissian’s responsibilities include mergers and acquisitions, investor relations, intellectual property and strategic initiatives. Since joining CalAmp, Sarkissian has executed key acquisitions that formed the nexus of CalAmp’s Wireless DataCom segment. He also helped to develop CalAmp’s IP capture initiatives and IP defense strategies.
Prior to joining CalAmp, Sarkissian served as principal and vice president of business development for Global Technology Investments, a private equity firm, from 2003 to 2005.
From 1999 to 2003, he held senior management and business development roles at California Eastern Laboratories, a private company developing and marketing radio frequency, microwave and optical components.
Sarkissian began his career as an RF engineer in 1988 and developed state-of-the-art RF power products over a span of 10 years for M/A Com and NEC.
Sarkissian holds a master’s degree in business administration from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France; a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Irvine; and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Harold E. Dewsnap, Sr. V.P. & General Manager, LoJack U.S.
Harold Dewsnap joined LoJack in January 2013 as our Senior Vice President/General Manager of U.S. Sales. Mr. Dewsnap brings 30 years of domestic and international sales experience to LoJack. Prior to joining the Company, he served as Regional Sales, Service and Parts Manager for the Ford Motor Co. in Boston, where as the top executive in New England he led a team responsible for more than $2 billion in annual sales. From 2005 to 2010 Dewsnap was Ford’s Los Angeles Regional Sales Manager. In addition, Dewsnap has served as Ford’s VP/District Manager in Puerto Rico and Marketing Manager for the Middle East District for Ford’s Worldwide Direct Market Operations.
Steve Moran, Sr. V.P., General Counsel and Ass't. Secretary
Steve Moran is senior vice president, general counsel and ass't secretary and oversees CalAmp's global legal affairs and compliance. In 2013 he joined CalAmp as the vice president of legal affairs and was elevated to vice president and general counsel in 2015.
With more than 18 years of experience as a general counsel in both public and private global high-tech companies, Moran has built and led legal teams dedicated to pragmatically assisting companies in successfully achieving their business goals and strategies.
Moran joined CalAmp from Beachbody, LLC, and previously served as the general counsel for Globus Medical, Inc. (NYSE: GMED). Earlier in his career, Moran served as executive vice president, general counsel & secretary, and executive vice president of human capital, for Masimo Corporation (NASDAQ: MASI). Prior to that, he was vice president, general counsel & secretary, and vice president of human resources & administration, for Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc. He was also the vice president, general counsel & secretary, and vice president of human resources, for Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL). Before joining Intersil, Moran was vice president and general counsel for Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. Moran began his in-house legal career with ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) where he served in increasingly responsible positions before being appointed general counsel of ITT Cannon.
Moran holds a bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Claremont McKenna College and a juris doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. He is admitted to practice law in California, Colorado, and the District of Columbia. He also served as a captain in the U.S. Army and later as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Scott J. Tripp, Vice President of Global Operations
Mr.Tripp joined LoJack in 1990 and is currently Vice President of Global Operations. Mr.Tripp served as our Director of Operations from 2001 to 2008 and Regional Operations Manager from 1999 to 2001. Prior to 1999, Mr.Tripp held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility within our operations organization.
