Westwood, MA - December 9, 2010 - LoJack Corporation (NASDAQ: LOJN), the company that invented the stolen vehicle recovery market, today announced that police recovered the first stolen classic car equipped with a LoJack for Classics system. The 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, valued at approximately $20,000, was reported stolen on Sunday, December 5 in Vallejo, CA and tracked down – just one hour after LoJack for Classics was activated – by a combination of the Vallejo, CA Police Department, the California Highway Patrol Aviation Unit, as well as Martinez, CA and Concord, CA Police Departments.
Suspects broke into the victim’s garage at approximately 5:30 p.m. They removed the garage door padlocks, defeated the Chevelle’s steering wheel lock and then drove off in the stolen car.
After officers with the California Highway Patrol picked up a LoJack signal from one of their aviation units, they relayed the coordinates of the signal to ground units. Shortly thereafter, officers with the Concord Police Department located the Chevelle parked at a residential driveway in Concord. The vehicle was recovered without any damage. Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the matter.
This was the second time in the last year that the victim had one of his classic cars stolen. In the first incident, the victim didn’t have a LoJack installed in his stolen 1923 Ford T-Bucket Roadster. In that incident, the Roadster was never recovered.
When speaking to a LoJack representative, the Chevelle owner said, “I’ve been bragging to all of my friends that the new LoJack for Classics system helped get my stolen Chevelle back. If I had a LoJack on my Roadster, it would probably still be in my possession.”
LoJack for Classics is a stolen vehicle recovery system that is specially designed to meet the unique requirements of classic cars and help owners protect the investment they make in these one-of-a-kind vehicles. The system leverages LoJack’s newly released next generation, self-powered stolen vehicle recovery technology, which offers several advantages that make it ideally suited to classic cars. One key benefit is that the self-powered LoJack for Classics does not draw energy from a vehicle’s battery, and as such does not need to be connected to the vehicle’s electrical system. Additionally, LoJack offers a personalized installation process to meet the specific needs of classic car owners. The system is installed by select, certified LoJack installers, who take the utmost care to preserve the integrity of the car’s interior and exterior. This covert system can be hidden in one of a variety of locations, which can be specified by the vehicle owner.
